Story Tails

Children Services Branch: Accident Accident Library This month we will have Maggie here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs. This program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading. Each child reads to a dog for 15-20 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary. All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of each reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to. This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

Her MacFaraday mysteries, which are set on Deep Creek Lake, have been receiving praise from fans and reviewers. Her latest mystery released on September 1, Dead on Ice also has been receiving praise from readers and book reviewers who have called it a page turner full of twists and turns. Dead on Ice is the first installment of Carr’s new series, Lovers in Crime, featuring Hancock County Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Thornton and Pennsylvania State Police homicide detective Cameron Gates. This mystery has made the top one-hundred in sales on Amazon under police procedurals. Carr will have copies of her mysteries for sale. Details are available at this link.

Adult Services Branch: Oakland 6 N. Second St. Have you ever read a book and wondered, now where did that author come up with that idea? Join us for "Where Did that Story Come From? Story Ideas" by author and publisher Lauren Carr as she discusses the surprising stories behind some of the greatest ideas in successful books, the difference between a great story idea and a bad one, and how a writer can take the germ of an idea and turn it into a great book. Her mysteries will be available for sale at the book signing following this presentation. The event is free and open to the public. Young Readers Club is a book discussion group for readers age nine through twelve. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through November and January through May.
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.
Students will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group. They will also enjoy a craft, game, or activity and a snack based upon themes relevant to the particular book selected for the program. If interested please contact Keela Pfaff at 301-334-3996 ext. 115.
