Teen Reading and Writing Group  5:00 PM - 7:30 PM  Teen Services

The Teen Readers and Writers Group for people ages 13--18 will meet at the Oakland library on the first Monday of each month from 5:00 until 7:30. Teens will meet to read, discuss, and do creative projects related to young adult literature. Sign up in advance by contacting Deb at 301-334-3996 x.104.
Read Across America - Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss  6:15 PM - 7:45 PM  Children Services

Come celebrate Read Across America and the birthday of Dr. Seuss with fun games and activities based on Dr. Seuss books, refreshments and a free book (book provided by Garrett County Education Association). Attendance is limited to the first 50 children who are pre-registered. Parents/caregivers should call Deb Spurrier at 301-334-3996 x 104 or send an email to deb.s@relib.net to register their children.

 

This year’s Oakland event will feature three rotations of activities lasting 20 minutes each, and a closing with refreshments. Each rotation will have a story theme based on a Dr. Seuss book, including “If I Ran the Circus” with tumbling instruction from Brenda’s Body Shop, “Yertle the Turtle” with a turtle program from Deep Creek Lake State Park Discovery Center, and “Cat in the Hat” with a fun hat craft.

Young Readers Club is a book discussion group for readers age nine through twelve.  The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through November and January through May.
 
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.
 
Students will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group.  They will also enjoy a craft, game, or activity and a snack based upon themes relevant to the particular book selected for the program.  If interested please contact Deb Spurrier at 301-334-3996 ext. 104.
