The Teen Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month.  Newcomers are welcomeThe book for Mar. is Kissing in Italian by Lauren Henderson. Participants will receive a free copy of the book. 

The Accident Teen Book Club is open to 12-18 year olds. We meet the first Weds. of each month (Sept-May) from 5:30-6:30PM (unless otherwise noted) at the Accident Library. Participants of the club receive a free copy of the book. You can choose to only register for the books you want to read. 

If school in Garrett County is cancelled due to weather, then Teen Book Club will be cancelled. If there is a weather delay, Teen Book Club will meet as scheduled.

HomeSchoolers @ the Library typically meets on the first Friday of the month September- November and January- May. Our volunteer presenters offer a wide variety of enrichment programs for home school children and their families.

Pre-registration is required. Space is limited.

Venessa Stacy from Ruth Enlow Library's Local History Department will present today's "Are You My Great-Great-Great Grandmother? - Finding Your Ancestors" program. Did you ever wonder what your great-great-great grandparents wore, ate, and did for fun? Come on the ultimate treasure hunt to find your ancestors. It's more than just names and dates. Participants will learn what life was like for kids during different time periods.

During Teen Tech Week (Mar. 6-11, 2017) teens can stop in the Accident Branch and enjoy games on the Wii or the PS2, Visit the Suggestion Box to make suggestions for things they would like to see in the Teen Area, Teen book or magazine suggestions, and ideas for Teen Services or programming, they can also sit a spell at one of the public computers and play around with Scratch, a computer coding program for beginners, stop and design a bookmark, make a craft, & play a game of chess or Scrabble Slam.

StoryTails  4:30 PM - 6:30 PM  Children Services
Branch: Grantsville 

The Grantsville Library will hold StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs on the first and third Mondays of each month from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

This program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading. Each child reads to a dog for 15 – 20 minutes, with the dog’s handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary. All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. No registration is required, and parents are asked to remain at the library while their child is reading. The program will not take place on days when the Garrett County schools are closed or dismissed early due to inclement weather.

Young Adult Book Club is a book discussion group for readers in grades 9 -12.  The group typically meets on the first Monday of each month.

STEM Kids is a program designed for children ages 6 to13 featuring a variety of activities that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM Kids programs are typically scheduled on days when school is released early for staff development. Pre-registration is required for this event, as spaces are limited.

STEM Kids programs will be cancelled and not rescheduled on days that Garrett County Public Schools are cancelled or delayed.

Enjoy an Evening of Adult Coloring at the Accident Library

The Adult Coloring Club meets every third Weds. of each month from 5-6:30 PM

“You are invited to attend this free program, designed as a quiet time for adults to enjoy a relaxing activity,” said a library spokesperson. “Coloring is not just for children these days. Adult coloring books have become quite popular. A story on cnn.com points out that ‘coloring has the therapeutic potential to reduce anxiety, create focus, or bring about more mindfulness. Like meditation, coloring allows the brain to switch off other thoughts and focus.’”

Young Readers Book Club is a book discussion group for readers in grades 6 through 8.  The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through November and January through May.
 
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.

Creating Light: Discussion with Author Beth Luers  6:00 PM - 7:30 PM  Adult Services
Branch: Oakland 6 North Second Street
The Oakland Library will host Beth Luers, retired professor of humanities at Garrett College, for a discussion about her recently published book, Creating Light. "This book tells the story of the purpose-filled lives of three Holocaust survivors – Leo Bretholz, Martin Gray, and Thomas Buergenthal – and provides lessons in moving forward and brotherhood,” said Luers. “I will speak about how I came to know these three amazing men who have strived to make the world a more humane place when that same world tried to kill them. I also will talk about how I came to write a book, the last thing I thought I would ever do.”
