Children's Hour teaches creative expression, social skills, listening comprehension, and the foundations of reading through letter and number recognition, and vocabulary building.

Story Tails

Children Services Branch: Accident Accident Library This month we will have Maggie here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs. This program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading. Each child reads to a dog for 15-20 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary. All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of each reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to. This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

Teen Reading and Writing Group

Teen Services Branch: Oakland Meeting Room The Teen Readers and Writers Group for people ages 13--18 will meet at the Oakland library on the first Monday of each month from 5:00 until 7:30. Teens will meet to read, discuss, and do creative projects related to young adult literature. Sign up in advance by contacting Deb at 301-334-3996 x.104.

On May 16th, Dee Lower from Lowes will have Build and Grow kits for kids to work on!

Young Readers' Book Club

Young Readers Club is a book discussion group for readers age nine through twelve. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through November and January through May.
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.
Students will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group. They will also enjoy a craft, game, or activity and a snack based upon themes relevant to the particular book selected for the program. If interested please contact Deb Spurrier at 301-334-3996 ext. 104.
