Wednesday Night Chess at the Accident Branch of the Ruth Enlow Library

 

Anyone interested in the game of chess is welcome to drop in between 5 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday through September.  If there is interest, we’ll continue it either year-round or April – October.  All skill levels are welcome.  We have seven chess sets available, or you can bring your own.  Come to watch, come to learn, come to practice, come to be challenged, and come to play!  If anyone has a timing clock, that might be interesting to bring along.

Courageous Women of Maryland  6:00 PM - 8:00 PM  Adult Services

Join us at Oakland Library for a presentation by Katharine Kenny and Eleanor Randrup – co-authors of the book “Courageous Women of Maryland." This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Ruth Enlow Library and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is not required, but a courtesy call to the library is appreciated at 301-334-3996, ext. 117, or email bonnie@relib.net "Courageous Women of Maryland” focuses on eighteen of the state’s most influential and courageous women, past and present, including Dr. Alta Schrock of Grantsville. This educational book, which is appropriate for grades 4 – 8, takes a look at each woman's achievements and the courageous choices each made to realize success. The authors will discuss their research and stories associated with these women. They also will sell and sign copies of their books.

The Accident Adult Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month.  Newcomers are welcome.  The book chosen for September is Defending Jacob by William Landay.      Regular club member have been put on a hold list for copies of this book.  If you would like to be added to this list, please contact us (contact info below).

National Book Festival Trip  6:30 AM  Adult Services
Branch: Oakland 

The Ruth Enlow Library invites you along on a bus trip with Schrock Tour & Charter to the 12th Annual National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 22. The trip is open to the public at a cost of $50 person, or $30 with a student ID, payable in full at the time of registration and non-refundable. The registration deadline is Saturday, September 8. To register, contact Georgie Dawson, administrative assistant at the Ruth Enlow Library, at 301-334-3996, ext. 106, and provide name, address, phone number, and number of reservations.

The chartered bus will depart the Oakland town parking lot at 6:30 a.m. the morning of September 22 and stop for pick-up at Delano’s Furniture Store (old IGA) in Accident at 7:00 a.m. The bus will leave Washington, D.C. that same day at 5:30 p.m. It will stop at Sideling Hill Rest Area en route to the festival and at the Golden Corral in Frederick for dinner on the return trip. Restrooms, TV, and VCR are available on the bus. No glass containers are permitted.
